Amazon Using Robots in Warehouses

Amazon Warehouse Robots order pulling

Amazon has started using AI robots to pull and ship orders. The technology is called Finds and it has been involved in the pulling and packing of orders since April 2018. It is reported that Amazon has already increased the number of Finds robots from 200-300 to 20,000. Why is Amazon using AI Robots? Is robotics a good thing for society? What are the pros and cons of deploying robotic technology in this way? These are all important questions that we shall attempt to answer in this article.

Amazon robots are not yet taking over the workforce just yet but they are playing an important role in helping workers keep up with order fulfillment. These robots are equipped with advanced technology that allows them to scan and retrieve an order, package it, and bring it to the shipping center. They can do this in a time that is faster than any human can (hence their creation). Employing these robots has come at a cost—losing jobs for humans.

Have you seen the latest or Amazon robots? They are quite impressive. You can watch them live, or view them on youtube at autonomous mobile robots. The video of “A World Without Work” has an animation of a robot taking packages to a house, and another robot uploading packets [sic] to a ship. But how many real robots does amazon have?
